Wroclaw Poland Christmas Market December 2023

Wroclaw Poland

Wroclaw Christmas market has loads of stalls, and we recon it's the second biggest one we have visited after Cologne. The market and christmas tree are located on the market square, which itself is one of the largest in Europe, and the stalls also radiate off the market square and this all adds up to giving a very festive vibe.

During the day there are lots of things to see and do as Wroclaw is Poland’s fourth largest city, and it is a truly beautiful place and such a delight to be in, but it's easy to forget as you walk around that 70% of the city has been rebuilt since the end of World War II.

We had an early flight out from Stansted airport at 5:25am on a Friday, the flight time was 2 hours and

on landing at Wroclaw airport we found it to be modern but small, and it was very easy to navigate around. We hadn't book transport from the airport to our hotel, so we walked outside and used the Uber app and within 10 minutes we were in the cab and on our way to our hotel, the cost just £9.00 for a 30 minute journey.

After checking in at our hotel the Old Town Haston for our long weekend stay, a lovely hotel and its in a perfect location, we went off to explore and to get a coffee and snack. In the afternoon we took a guided walk, always in our opinion an excellent way to get a lot of information about the city your visiting early on, we tend to use Guruwalks where at the end, you choose the amount to pay, that way your normally guaranteed a fun charismatic guide.

As you walk around you soon get drawn into looking to find the small cast bronze dwarfs, it's one of the more quirky things to do in Wroclaw, for 37 years Poland was also a communist ruled country between 1952 and 1989 and they were born from The Orange Alternative, the local Polish anti-communist nonviolent protestors who used a gnome or dwarf as their symbol. They would spray paint little dwarves on communist propaganda all over the city and it caught on like wildfire.

Getting around Wroclaw is both cheap and easy, we used Uber all the time as there was 4 of us, but there are plenty of trams and buses in the city centre.

Eating out we found was good value, a tip if your going to visit at the weekend, we found you couldn't just walk into a restaurant as they were fully booked, so after trying about six restaurants on Friday we struck lucky, and ended up at a fantastic local place eating traditional bigos hunters stew (a traditional Polish stew of sauerkraut and pork and other types of meat, fruits, and vegetables). Saturday we pre booked a restaurant !

Conclusion: Fabulous weekend away. A lovely city, cheap, we would highly recommend.
