Road trip over to France then down to Le Mans
Wow what a weekend 6 friends in 3 cars went over to France for a road trip down to Le Mans and we covered 730 miles.
We had planned the trip down to Le Mans kept to keep us off the toll roads and the motorways choosing to go along the D roads, this way we passed through charming French villages and along fun quite roads.
Our first stop after leaving the Eurotunnel was just a short trip of 1 hour away at Le Touquet for brunch, a surprisingly nice place right on the beach, so much so we chose it as the place to stop on the return journey a few days later. After brunch it was off down to Rouen, were we stayed in a motel just outside the town, from were we caught the tram into the centre of Rouen.
Rouen boasts the second largest number of listed buildings in France and exploring this beautiful town is a delight, a personal highlight for me was the stunning Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen and the beautiful narrow streets.
The next morning it was off to Le Mans, where we stayed for two nights in the old town area at LePrince Hotel and Spa, and as a bonus the hotel had onsite parking, and it was also close to the old town which meant it was only a short walk to the bars and restaurants.
The next day was a split day with the boys off to the Le Mans circuit and the girls into Le Mans for a morning of retail therapy.
Unfortunately for the boys Saturday was extremely wet in the morning, we visited the Le Mans museum and got access to the circuit where we watched some bikes doing practice laps, and with the rain easing we did managed to get to drive two laps around the full Le Mans track.
Leaving on Sunday morning it was decided to take the toll roads back to our planned late afternoon stop back at La Touquet for food, from there it was a short trip up the coast to catch the Eurotunnel back to England.
The roads in France are so much better than ours I don’t recall seeing one pothole, and the toll roads are so smooth on the road surface!!!
